1.1 These Terms

1.1.1 Scope of These Terms

These Terms & Conditions govern the use of WGC Bury’s facilities, services, and website. They apply to:

  • Membership, including categories, eligibility, and payment obligations
  • Booking and use of the golf course, clubhouse, and practice areas
  • Conduct expectations for members, guests, and visitors
  • Competition participation and prize eligibility
  • Equipment rental terms for buggies, trolleys, and clubs
  • Health & safety requirements, liability waivers, and insurance policies
  • Data protection, privacy, and how we manage personal information
  • Venue hire for events, including specific hall hire terms
  • Complaint resolution and changes to these Terms

By accessing our club facilities, booking tee times, or engaging with our services, you agree to comply with these Terms.

WGC Bury is operated by TGGC Walmersley Limited ("We", "Our", or "Us"). We are a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17033787, with our registered office located at Newbury House, Main Street, Little Ouseburn, York, England, YO26 9TD.

WGC Bury, established in 1906, is a golf club that takes pride in its rich tradition and welcoming atmosphere. Our philosophy is that golf should be about enjoyment and fostering a sense of community.

These Terms and Conditions are designed to support these values by setting clear expectations for member behaviour, ensuring the upkeep of our facilities, and preserving a respectful, safe, and enjoyable environment for all. By adhering to these Terms and Conditions, members protect the club's reputation, foster camaraderie, and create a space where everyone can enjoy the game and its facilities to the fullest.

By using our facilities, website, or services, you agree to comply with these Terms & Conditions, our Privacy Policy, and any applicable club rules.

1.3 Roles & Responsibilities

1.3.1 Definitions of Roles

  • Members - A "Member" refers to an individual who has been accepted into WGC Bury and has paid the applicable membership fees. Members are entitled to access all club facilities and participate in club events, subject to the club's rules and regulations. Members are also entitled to bring Guests to the club under the conditions specified by the club. Members must comply with all club policies and maintain their membership in good standing.
  • Guests - A "Guest" is an individual invited by a Member to use the facilities of WGC Bury. Guests are entitled to discounted green fee rates as "Member Guests" when accompanied by the Member. A Guest must always be accompanied by the Member while on club premises. Guest privileges are subject to availability, club policies, and any booking requirements (such as pre-registration). Members may bring Guests up to a limited number of times per year as set out in the Membership Category Outline.
  • Visitors - A "Visitor" refers to an individual accessing WGC Bury for golf or non-golf-related purposes. Visitors who wish to play golf must pay the standard visitor green fee rate and do not receive the discounted rates offered to Member Guests. Visitors may also include individuals attending events, social functions, or private hires within the club premises.
1.4 Overview of Services and Facilities

WGC Bury ("the Club") offers an 18-hole course maintained to high standards, along with practice greens, a chipping area. Golf buggies (seasonally), trolleys, and clubs are available for rent. The clubhouse features a bar, locker rooms, private function spaces and PARZ vending machines for golf accessoriesl. Members can participate in regular club competitions, Honours Board events, social gatherings, and coaching sessions. The club provides flexible membership options, guest access with members, and visitor green fee rates. Course etiquette policies and emergency procedures are in place to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.

2. Membership & Payments

2.1 Membership Categories and Eligibility

2.1.2 All playing membership categories require prior golfing experience, including an understanding of the rules, etiquette, and pace of play. This ensures a smooth course flow and minimises disruptions for other members.

2.1.2 For those new to the game, alternative options like our Academy Membership offer a structured pathway to learn, develop skills, and gain experience before progressing to full membership.

2.1.3 Mobility Membership is intended for golfers who require the use of a ride-on buggy in order to reasonably access the course. This membership category provides seasonal playing access during periods where buggy use is typically permitted by the Club. Seasonal access periods are determined solely by the Club and may vary annually depending on weather, ground conditions and operational requirements.

Buggy availability is not guaranteed and may be suspended or restricted at any time for course protection, safety or operational reasons.

The Club may require supporting evidence confirming the member's requirement for buggy use as part of the application or renewal process.

Mobility Membership remains an annual membership, rolling from the date of joining. For example, a member joining in June will pay the full membership fee, playing from June – October, with no playing rights from November – March, then regaining playing rights from April – May, before renewing membership in June.

2.1.4 Where offered, Monthly Membership operates on a rolling monthly basis and renews automatically each month unless cancelled in accordance with the Club's cancellation procedures (30 days notice before renewal).

Monthly Membership fees are payable in advance and membership benefits may be suspended immediately in the event of failed or overdue payment.

The Club reserves the right to amend monthly membership pricing, benefits or eligibility criteria at any time.

2.1.5 The Club may also offer separate corporate packages, hospitality products or commercial golf agreements which are governed by their own specific terms and conditions and do not constitute standard golf membership categories unless expressly stated otherwise.

Student Membership Full membership benefits for students in full-time education.Previous Golf Experience – Applicants should have prior golfing experience and a basic understanding of golf rules and etiquette. A valid handicap index may be required. Proof of Education - A school-issued ID indicating the current academic year.
Junior Membership (Under 17)Membership for players under 17 years old, with access to junior coaching and competitions.Previous Golf Experience – Applicants should have prior golfing experience and a basic understanding of golf rules and etiquette. A valid handicap index may be required. Proof of ID - A government issued ID with date of birth up to and including 17 years old. A completed junior consent form by Parent/Carer is mandatory.
Mobility MembershipUnlimited access to the course and clubhouse facilities, while buggies are available for hire (typically April – October).Previous Golf Experience – Applicants should have prior golfing experience and a basic understanding of golf rules and etiquette. A valid handicap index may be required. Mobility Support Membership is intended for golfers who require the use of a ride-on buggy in order to reasonably access the course. Academy MembershipDesigned for beginners, includes coaching and limited course access.Academy Membership is designed for beginners who are new to golf. Applicants must have little to no previous playing experience and must not have on-course golf experience. The Club reserves the right to determine eligibility at its discretion.
Away MembershipFor members who are based at another recognised golf club and want to join Wanstead as their ‘away’ club.Proof of Home Membership – Applicants must provide a current membership invoice or official letter from their home club confirming their membership status, equivalent 7-day membership, membership dates, and payment of national and county affiliation fees. Affiliation fees will be charged unless the membership invoice clearly shows that the relevant county and national affiliation fees have already been paid through the home club.
Honorary MembershipSpecial recognition for members with over 50 years of continuous membership.Longstanding Membership Recognition - Applicants must have maintained continuous membership for over 50 years to qualify for special recognition.
Overseas MembershipFor members who have a primary residence must be located outside of the United Kingdom and want to join Wanstead Golf Club.Previous Golf Experience - Primary residence must be located outside of the United Kingdom - proof of address (recent utility bill dated in the last 3 months required).
Corporate ExecutiveFor businesses wishing to provide named full golfing memberships for directors, partners or employees.Previous Golf Experience – Applicants should have prior golfing experience and a basic understanding of golf rules and etiquette. A valid handicap index may be required. Handicap Index (if applicable) – A valid WHS handicap index or proof of playing ability may be required for competition eligibility.
Social MembershipAccess to clubhouse facilities and social events, but not the golf course.All applicants welcome.
2.2 Application Process

2.2.1 Approval Process

All membership applications are subject to approval by the Club Management Team. The club reserves the right to accept or decline any application at its discretion, without obligation to provide a reason.

2.2.2 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the club’s student, residency, affiliation, and other eligibility requirements as outlined for the specific membership category. Proof of address or membership at another golf club may be required where applicable.

2.2.3 Application Review

Applications will be reviewed based on availability, compliance with club policies, and suitability for membership.

2.2.4 Interview or Introduction Round

The club may require applicants to attend a skills-based assessment or a round of golf with a designated club representative prior to approval.

2.2.5 Payment & Activation

Membership becomes active only upon full payment of applicable fees and dues. If an application is declined, any payments made in advance will be refunded in full.

Any former member whose membership has ceased through resignation, termination or lapse must submit a new application to rejoin. The Club reserves the right to charge the prevailing rejoining fee, in addition to any applicable joining fee, unless waived at its discretion.

2.2.6 Membership Start Date

Unless otherwise agreed by the Club, all memberships commence on the 1st day of a calendar month.

Applicants may elect for membership to commence either:

  • from the 1st day of the current calendar month; or
  • from the 1st day of the following calendar month.

Membership fees are payable in full regardless of the date the application is submitted during the month. The selected Membership Start Date shall be used for the purposes of membership entitlement, renewal dates, and any applicable minimum membership term.

2.2.7 Accuracy and Misrepresentation

Any false or misleading information provided during the application process may result in immediate rejection or, if discovered later, termination of membership without refund.

2.2.8 Review & Amendments

The club reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. Applicants will be notified of any material changes affecting the application process.

2.2.9 Club Rules & Conduct

Approved members must adhere to the club’s rules, code of conduct, and etiquette standards. Failure to comply may result in suspension or termination of membership.

2.3 Membership Fees & Payment

2.3.1 Fee Structure & Payment Obligations

Members are required to pay the applicable membership fees associated with their selected membership category, as determined by the Club from time to time. Unless otherwise stated for a specific membership category, memberships operate on a minimum term of 12 months.

2.3.2 Payment Methods

Membership fees must be paid in full by the specified deadline on your membership invoice, or via an approved payment scheme.

Payments can be made online or in certain cases, where approved by the club, direct bank transfers (BACS) are accepted. Cash is not accepted.

2.3.3 Payment Schemes

Limited membership categories may offer a Payment Scheme payment option. Where a member elects to pay via an approved payment scheme, including instalments, this constitutes a method of payment only and does not affect the minimum membership term. The member remains liable for the full annual membership fee for the duration of the minimum term.

Where an advance payment is required as part of a Payment Scheme, it forms part of the Member's contractual commitment to the minimum membership term and is not a credit against future missed instalments. Failure to make any scheduled payment when due constitutes a breach of these Terms and Conditions and may result in suspension and termination of membership.

2.3.4 Membership Add-Ons

Payments for any membership add-ons, including but not limited to locker rental and trolley storage, must be paid in full at the time they are added (on a pro-rata basis where applicable).

2.3.5 Fee Adjustments

The Club reserves the right to review and amend membership fees at any time. Any revised fees shall apply from the member’s next renewal date.

2.3.6 Membership Changes & Refunds

Membership fees are non-refundable. Changes to membership category are not permitted during the membership term and may only take effect at renewal.

2.4 Late Payment Penalties & Non-Payment Consequences

2.4.1 Grace Period

Members who fail to pay their subscription by the due date will receive a 3-day grace period to settle their account.

2.4.2 Suspension of Membership and Late Payment Fee

Failure to make any scheduled payment when due constitutes a breach of these Terms and Conditions.

If any payment is not received after the grace period, membership privileges, including playing rights and clubhouse access, will be suspended pending termination. A Late Payment Fee of £35.00 will be applied to any payment received after the expiry of the grace period.

The existence of any advance payment does not prevent suspension following a missed instalment.

2.4.3 Termination of Membership

If any fees remain unpaid 4 days after the expiry of the grace period (i.e., 7 days from the original due date), the Club reserves the right to terminate the membership without further notice.

Termination of membership for non-payment shall not affect the Member's liability for any membership fees due under the minimum membership term.

In the event of termination due to the Member's breach of these Terms, any advance payments already made shall be retained by the Club and are non-refundable.

Any overdue sums remaining unpaid after reasonable notice may be referred to a third-party debt recovery agency or legal representatives for collection.

Where legally recoverable, the Member shall also be responsible for any reasonable costs incurred by the Club in recovering outstanding sums, including debt recovery and legal costs.

2.4.4 Unauthorised Use During Suspension

Members who continue to use the club facilities or course during a suspension will have their membership terminated immediately.

2.5 Renewals

2.5.1 Automatic Renewal

Unless otherwise specified for a particular membership category, all memberships automatically renew for successive 12-month terms. Members wishing to resign must provide 30 day's written notice in accordance with the Club's Resignation Policy. Where no valid notice is received, the membership shall automatically renew, and the Member shall remain liable for the applicable membership fees for the renewed term.

2.5.2 Renewal Notification

Where applicable, the Club may issue a renewal notice, invoice or other communication confirming the forthcoming membership term, the applicable membership fee and any changes to membership fees. The Club will endeavour to provide such notification at least 30 days before the commencement of the renewed membership term.

2.5.3 Changes to Membership Fees

The Club reserves the right to amend membership fees upon renewal. Members will be notified of any revised fees before the commencement of the renewed membership term.

2.5.4 Changes in Fees at Renewal

The Club reserves the right to alter membership fees at the time of renewal. The club will issue an invoice which will set out the applicable membership fee prior to the renewal deadline.

2.5.5 Outstanding Debts

Membership will not be renewed if there are any outstanding debts from previous membership periods. Members must settle all dues before renewal can be processed.

2.6 Resignation and Termination

2.6.1 Resignation

Members wishing to resign must give the Club at least 30 days' written notice before the commencement of their next membership term. Resignations are subject to the Club's Resignation Policy.

2.6.2 Termination

The Club reserves the absolute right, at its sole discretion, to suspend or terminate any membership at any time, with or without notice, and without the need to provide a reason, explanation, or prior investigation. The Club shall not be required to justify, evidence, or substantiate any decision to suspend or terminate a membership.

2.7 Refunds & Cancellations

2.7.1 Non-Refundable Fees and Credits

Membership fees and payments are non-refundable once paid, except at the discretion of the Club under exceptional circumstances. Clubhouse credit and competition purse credit is also non-refundable and must be used within the membership period. Any unused balance will be forfeited.

2.7.2 Cancellation Policy

If a member chooses to cancel their membership before the term ends, no refunds will be provided, and remain liable for all membership fees due for the remainder of the minimum membership term. Any unpaid amounts may be referred to a nominated debt collection agency.

2.7.3 Temporary Suspension Due To Medical Leave

Where the Club approves a temporary suspension of membership due to medical leave, only the membership fee shall be eligible for suspension. All other charges, including affiliation fees and ancillary fees (such as locker rental and trolley storage), shall remain payable during the period of suspension. The Member's membership term shall be extended by a period equivalent to the approved suspension, with no cash refund or alternative credit being payable.

2.7.3 Termination of Membership

Where membership is terminated due to the Member's breach of these Terms and Conditions, no refund shall be payable and the Member shall remain liable for any fees due under the minimum membership term.

2.8 Membership Statuses
  • Active: The membership is valid and in good standing.
  • Suspended: The membership has been temporarily placed on hold. This may be due to unpaid fees, disciplinary action, or other circumstances as determined by the club.
  • Medical Leave: The membership is paused for a maximum term of 3 months due to a medical condition preventing the member from playing.
  • Terminated: The club has terminated the membership, typically due to a breach of rules, misconduct, or non-payment.
  • Resigned: The member has voluntarily ended their membership at renewal stage.

3. Clubhouse Rules & Conduct

3.1 Hours of Operation

Club Office Hours
The Club's administrative functions are managed by the Head Office team and can be contacted at office@wgcbury.co.uk. On-site office availability may vary and cannot be guaranteed.

3.1.1 Additional notes

  • Club hospitality services may close earlier if customer activity is low or it is commercially unviable to remain open.
  • Drinking-Up Time: A 30-minute drinking-up period is allowed after the bar closes.
  • Terrace Area: Open when the bar is open.
3.2 Dress Code In The Clubhouse

Members, guests, and visitors are expected to maintain a smart-casual standard of dress in the clubhouse at all times. Members must ensure guests adhere to the dress code.

3.2.1 Permitted Attire

  • Smart casual clothing, including tailored trousers, chinos, and smart jeans.
  • Collared shirts, polo shirts, or smart t-shirts .
  • Sweaters and hoodies may be worn, provided they are not overly casual in appearance.
  • Golf attire is permitted, provided it is clean and presentable.
  • Smart trainers, loafers, deck shoes, sandals/flip-flops or formal footwear.
  • Caps and hats are permitted, though preferred to be off when in the clubhouse
  • Club-branded or golf-branded apparel is acceptable.

3.2.2 Not-Permitted Attire

  • Tracksuits and gym wear.
  • Cargo shorts
  • Workwear, such as high-visibility vests or industrial clothing.
  • Dirty or excessively worn clothing.
  • Wet or muddy clothing.
  • Golf shoes with spikes
3.3 Bill Settlements and Club Accounts

3.3.1 All bills must be settled before leaving the premises.

3.3.2 Member Club Accounts cannot have a balance below £0.00.

3.3.3 Only the registered member is permitted to use the membership card and account.

3.3.4 No tabs are permitted unless pre-paid.

3.4 Car Park Policy

Disabled bays are available for eligible users. All members and visitors are eligible to use the upper car park and overflow car park.

Vehicles must be parked in designated bays during visits to the Club and must not be left on the premises for extended periods.

3.5 Food and Beverage Policy
  • Only food and beverages purchased from the clubhouse may be consumed on the premises.
  • Personal food or drinks are not permitted in the clubhouse.
  • All event catering must be supplied exclusively by the Club's in-house catering facilities or an approved catering partner. External caterers will only be permitted where the Club is unable to meet the catering requirements and prior written approval has been granted by the Club.
  • The club assumes no liability for food taken off-site.
3.6 Smoking and Vaping

Smoking and vaping are prohibited within the Clubhouse. They are only permitted outside when the bar is open and in designated outdoor areas.

3.7 Drug & Intoxication Policy
  • The use, possession, or distribution of illegal drugs on club premises is prohibited, with immediate disciplinary action including suspension or expulsion for violators.
  • Excessive alcohol consumption leading to disruptive behaviour may result in removal from the premises.
  • CCTV is in operation throughout the premises for staff & customer safety. CCTV is used for crime prevention purposes and could be used by the local authorities
3.8 Dog Policy
  • Dogs are allowed in the clubhouse, provided they are well-behaved and on a lead.
  • Dogs may accompany golfers on social rounds but are not allowed during competitions.
  • Members walking dogs on the course must stay on paths.
3.9 Mobile Phones and Video Calls
  • Mobile phones should be used discreetly. Calls should be brief and non-disruptive, and loud broadcasts such as music or videos are not permitted.
  • Video calls are only permitted with the use of headphones, and should be conducted in a non-disruptive way.
3.10 Golf Clubs & Bags

Golf clubs and bags should be stored in the dedicated bag locker room only, and not in any other areas within the clubhouse. The Club accepts no liability for personal belongings of members or visitors.

4. Club Rules & Disciplinary

4.1 Expected Behaviour

4.1.1 All members and their guests are required to comply with the Club’s Terms and Conditions, policies, and safety guidelines at all times.

4.1.2 Breaches of Club rules may result in the following disciplinary actions, at the discretion of the Club Head Office:

  • Verbal or written warning
  • Suspension
  • Termination of membership

4.1.3 Members are responsible for treating all club facilities with respect and may be liable for any damages caused. Any damage caused by a member or their guest may result in liability for repair or replacement costs.

4.1.4 Members must conduct themselves in a respectful and socially appropriate manner at all times, including when communicating with management, staff, fellow members, guests, and visitors.

4.1.5 A valid tee-time and check-in at the Clubhouse Bar is required before using the golf course. Unauthorised use of the course may result in disciplinary action.

4.1.6 Members must follow reasonable instructions from club staff.

4.1.7 The possession, use, or distribution of illegal drugs on club premises is strictly prohibited.

4.2 Disciplinary Procedures

4.2.1 Members

Any complaints or allegations of misconduct shall be reviewed by Head Office or an appointed disciplinary person. The Club reserves the right to take appropriate action, which may include:

  • Issuing a formal written warning;
  • Suspending membership for a specified period;
  • Terminating membership

4.2.2 Member Guests

Guests must follow all club rules and conduct standards. Misconduct may result in:

  • Immediate removal from premises
  • Restricted future access
  • Disciplinary action for the hosting member
4.3 Notification of Suspension or Termination

The Club will provide written notice of any suspension or termination of membership to the member’s last known contact details. Such notice shall be deemed received upon dispatch, and the Club shall not be responsible for any failure by the member to receive or review such communication.

4.4 Matters Relating to Rules of Golf or Handicapping

Where the disciplinary matter relates to the Rules of Golf, handicapping, or any issue falling within the England Golf Disciplinary Framework, the Club will follow the England Golf process and recognise the right of appeal through the County and/or England Golf Appeals Panel as set out in the England Golf Disciplinary Regulations.

Decisions which relate to the Rules of Golf or to handicapping infringements fall within the England Golf Disciplinary Framework and are subject to a right of appeal as set out below

5. Course Rules & Etiquette

5.1 Bookings, Guests & General Play

5.1.1 Tee Time Bookings

  • Members may book tee times up to one month in advance.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to tee time.
  • Late arrivals will be accommodated when possible but preferred time slots are not guaranteed.
  • All golfers must check-in to their tee time via their member app.

5.1.2 No-Show Policy

A "three-strike" rule applies. After three no-shows, members may be charged up to 50% of the visitor green fee. Repeated offenders may lead to booking restrictions.

5.1.3 Guest Policy

  • Members may invite the same guest up to 10 times per membership year.
  • Maximum 3 guests per round, subject to guest fees.
  • Beyond 10 visits, guests must pay the standard visitor green fee.
  • A minimum of 30 days must elapse between visits by the same guest at the discounted rate.

5.1.4 General Conduct

  • Members must follow booking etiquette and be respectful toward other players and staff.
  • Members must have a booked tee time to access the course.
  • Members must have their bag tag on display at all times while on the course.
5.2 Pace of Play & Course Marshals

5.2.1 Maintaining Pace

  • Aim to complete 18 holes in under 4.5 hours (excluding competitions).
  • Keep pace with the group ahead; allow faster groups to play through.
  • Be ready to play when it’s your turn.
  • Continuous putting is encouraged where practical.

5.2.2 Marshal Authority

Course Marshals (typically the Club Pro) may:

  • Ask to see member bag tags
  • Request proof of green fee purchase
  • Request faster play
  • Enforce rules
  • Direct players to repair damage
  • Ask individuals to leave the course

Failure to comply with Marshal instructions may result in disciplinary action.

5.3 Player Conduct & Courtesy

5.3.1 Respect for All

  • All players must treat members, guests, staff, and visitors with respect and courtesy.
  • Abusive or disruptive behaviour may lead to removal and disciplinary action.
  • Players must not engage in any behaviour or conduct on or off the course that interferes with, disrupts, or diminishes another player’s enjoyment of their game.

5.3.2 On-Course Etiquette

Maintain appropriate noise levels and avoid distractions during others’ shots.

5.4 Course Care Responsibilities

5.4.1 Player Responsibilities

All players must take responsibility for maintaining the quality and playability of the course. This includes:

  • Divot Repair – Players must replace and press down divots or use the seed mix provided where available.
  • Bunker Raking – After playing from a bunker, players must rake the area they disturbed, ensuring a smooth surface for others.
  • Rakes should be placed back in the designated areas, face down.
  • Pitch Mark Repair – Players must repair any pitch marks on greens using a proper repair tool.

5.4.2 Enforcement
Failure to follow course care responsibilities may result in a warning or further action by club officials.

5.5 Safety, Signage & Boundaries

5.5.1 Out of Bounds

Players must report out-of-bounds balls to the Club via email) or via the signage on the 17th tee.
Extra care is needed near the 2nd and 17th fairways. Failure to report may result in termination of membership.

5.5.2 Signage Compliance

Obey all course signage including:

  • No Entry, Trolley Restrictions, and Cart Path Only areas
  • Safety notices (e.g., blind shots, restricted zones)

5.5.3 Player Safety

Players must play safely and shout “FORE” when necessary. The Club accepts no liability for injuries caused by unsafe play.

5.6 Dress Code on the Course

Walmersley Golf Club embraces traditional golf attire while accommodating modern, appropriate golf wear. The dress code applies to all areas of the course, including practice greens and the driving range.The club encourages members to dress in a way that respects the traditions of golf while allowing for individual comfort and self-expression.

Acceptable Attire:

  • Collared shirts or modern alternatives
  • Tailored shorts, golf trousers, skorts
  • Athletic leggings (paired with suitable golf top)
  • Golf-appropriate outerwear including hoodies designed for golf
  • Golf shoes

Unacceptable Attire:

  • Football shirts, graphic tees, tank tops
  • Jeans, gym shorts, cargo shorts, beachwear
  • Clothing with offensive language or logos
5.7 Practice Areas
  • The main practice area is available during course open hours, unless booked for lessons.
  • On the Putting/Chipping Greens, a maximum of three balls is recommended.
  • All aids and balls must be collected after use.
5.8 Buggies & Trolleys

5.8.1 Buggies

  • April–October: Buggies may be booked for social rounds, weather permitting.
  • Must follow designated routes and avoid tees, greens, bunkers.

5.8.2 Trolleys

  • Manual and electric trolleys permitted year-round, weather permitting.
  • Must stay off tees, greens, and bunkers, and follow paths in accordance with the local rules displayed on the course.
5.9 Course Maintenance & Play Rules

5.9.1 Maintenance

All players must actively maintain course conditions (divots, tees, pitch marks, bunkers).

5.9.2 Lost Balls

Limit searches to 3 minutes. Keep pace and let faster groups play through.

5.9.3 GUR & No Play Zones

  • Relief is optional from GUR, but mandatory from No Play Zones.
  • Relief must be taken within one club length of the nearest point of full relief.
  • Temporary Local Rules may define drop zones.

6. Golf & Competition Rules

6.1 Conduct & Etiquette

All players must uphold golf’s values of integrity, respect, and care for the course:

  • Integrity: Follow the Rules of Golf honestly and apply penalties when required.
  • Respect: Play promptly, ensure others’ safety, and avoid distractions.
  • Course Care: Replace divots, repair pitch marks, rake bunkers, avoid damage, and dispose of litter.
6.2 Handicaps & Score Submission

6.2.1 Handicap Management

WGC Bury manages members’ Handicap Indexes through the World Handicap System (WHS). Indexes are based on the best 8 of your last 20 qualifying scores and shown on the Club App.

6.2.2 Submitting Scores

All members are responsible for submitting their own scores.

  • Register your intention to submit a score before starting your round.
  • Submit scores by midnight on the day of play.
  • Use the Club App, clubhouse computers, or England Golf App.
  • For other courses, use the England Golf App.
  • Failure to submit results in a penalty score.

6.2.3 New Members – Getting a Handicap

New members are required to submit at least 54 holes (any combination of 9 or 18) to receive an initial Handicap Index, based on the lowest of 3 rounds minus two strokes. You are required to submit your scores on the England Golf App.

6.2.4 What Counts as a Valid Score

  • Must follow the Rules of Golf.
  • Format must be authorised.
  • 18-hole rounds: complete at least 10 holes.
  • 9-hole rounds: must complete all 9.
  • Score must be verified by another player.
  • Course must have valid Course and Slope Ratings.
6.3 Competitions

Members may enter competitions for which they are eligible, subject to the specific terms, conditions, and eligibility criteria of each competition. Competition formats, handicap limits, entry requirements, qualification criteria, prize eligibility, divisional structures, age restrictions, entry fees, and any other competition-specific rules will be published in the competition description, notice of competition, or event information. It is the responsibility of each member to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements for any competition they enter. WGC Bury reserves the right to refuse entry, adjust competition results, withhold prizes, or disqualify participants who do not satisfy the applicable conditions. Entry fees will not normally be refunded in such circumstances.

6.3.1 Competition Rules

All competitions are subject to:

  • The Rules of Golf as approved by The R&A.
  • The World Handicap System (WHS).
  • Local Rules and Temporary Local Rules in force at the club.
  • Any additional competition-specific rules, terms, or conditions published by the club.

Where a competition-specific rule conflicts with these Terms & Conditions, the competition-specific rule shall take precedence for that event.

6.4 Use of Buggies in Competitions

6.4.1 Player Rules

Buggies may only be used by players with a disability (per the Equality Act 2010), or a medical exemption (must provide evidence).

6.4.2 Sharing

Sharing is not permitted unless authorised.

6.4.3 Exceptions

The Competition Manager may allow use for the second round of 36-hole events.

6.5 Playing Times and Restrictions

6.5.1 Membership Access

Full Members (Including Full Monthly) & Young Adults (18–25):

  • Anytime.

Mobility Members:

  • April – October: Anytime.
  • November – May: No play.

Juniors:

  • Under 10: Must be supervised 1:1 at all times, regardless of handicap
  • Juniors (Index ≤24) Anytime
  • Juniors (Index ≥25) After 11 AM under supervision of an adult

Midweek Members:

  • Weekdays only (excluding Bank Holidays).
  • Weekend and Bank Holiday play chargeable at guest rate during visitor hours, and subject to tee time availability.

Away Club Members:

  • Weekdays: From 11 AM.
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays: From 12 PM.

Academy Members:

  • Weekdays: From 11 AM.
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays: From 2 PM.

Guest Play:

  • Off-Peak (Mon–Thu): From 11 AM
  • Peak (Fri–Sun & Holidays): From 12 PM.
  • Exceptions require approval.

6.5.2 Day of the Week Restrictions

Monday to Thursday (Excluding Bank Holidays)

  • Play may start from either the 1st or 10th tee. However, players starting at the 10th must give way to those approaching from the 9th.

Friday to Sunday and Bank Holidays

  • Social matches must give way to any official Competition of the Day.
6.6 Score Submissions in Competitions
  • All rounds must begin on the 1st tee unless specified otherwise.
  • 3-ball play preferred, however, a four ball may be allowed in individual competitions (as noted in competition details).
  • All members are responsible for entering their own scores via the scoring app or tablet in the clubhouse, unless a competition specifically requires scorecards in use in which case players are required to submit cards to the Club Pro or an assistant on the day.
6.7 Prize Fund
  • 100% of competition entry fees (excluding VAT) are awarded directly to competition winners.
6.8 Guest Policy

6.8.1 Guest Access and Play Limits

  • Unlimited guest invites.
  • Discounted guest rate: Each individual guest is eligible for max 10 rounds/year, not more than once every 30 days.
  • Further rounds: Pay full Visitor rate.
  • Members must ensure guests follow dress code and behaviour standards.

6.8.2 Guest Play Time Restrictions

  • Off-Peak (Mon–Thu): From 11 AM
  • Peak (Fri–Sun & Holidays): From 12 PM.

Members’ guests are generally welcome to play during off-peak hours without restriction. During peak times, access may be limited and is subject to tee time availability. Priority will be given to members during particularly busy periods, and the guest policy may be adjusted at short notice to reflect demand.

6.9 Pace of Play Guidelines
  • Keep Pace: Aim to keep up with the group in front of you, rather than just staying ahead of the group behind.
  • Allow Faster Players Through: If you fall behind by more than one hole, invite the group behind to play through. Similarly, if it’s clear that the group behind is playing faster, allow them to pass.
  • Lost Balls: If you lose a ball, immediately call through the group behind while you search. Note that you have a maximum of 3 minutes to locate a lost ball.
  • Be Ready: Walk briskly between shots, and position your trolley, buggy, or bag between the green and the next tee before putting. Record scores while others are teeing off, and be prepared to play when it’s your turn.
6.10 Local Rules

Local rules can be found on our website and displayed physically on the course and in the clubhouse. Any temporary local rules will be posted and communicated to members via email and the club app.

6.11 Penalties

Breaches of the Rules of Golf or any conduct contrary to the spirit of the game may result in penalties, including disqualification.

6.12 Cancellations and Refunds

Members may cancel their competition entry up until 6:00 AM on the day prior to the event to receive a full refund.

7. Equipment Rental Terms

Cancellations made after this time are non-refundable.

7.1 Eligibility & Booking

Rental of golf carts, clubs, and trolleys is available to members, guests, and visitors. Equipment must be booked in advance, subject to availability.

7.2 Usage & Care

Renters are responsible for using the equipment properly and returning it in the same condition. Any damage caused beyond normal wear and tear may result in repair or replacement charges. Golf carts must be driven responsibly, adhering to designated paths and course rules.

7.3 Liability & Safety

The Club is not responsible for any injury or damage resulting from improper use of rented equipment. Golf carts may only be operated by individuals aged 18 or older with a valid driving licence. No more than two passengers are permitted per golf cart.

7.4 Returns & Late Fees

All rented equipment must be returned by the agreed-upon time. Late returns may be subject to additional fees.

7.5 Loss & Damage

Renters are liable for lost, stolen, or damaged equipment. Any loss or damage must be reported immediately to Head Office via email.

7.6 Cancellations & Refunds

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance to qualify for a refund. No refunds will be issued for unused rental time.

7.7 Course Conditions & Restrictions

The Club reserves the right to restrict golf cart usage due to weather or course conditions. If rental is cancelled by the Club, a full refund or alternative booking will be offered.

8. Health & Safety

8.1 General Safety

Members and guests must follow all safety rules. Unsafe behaviour may result in disciplinary action. Be aware of surroundings, especially when swinging clubs or using golf carts.

8.2 First Aid & Emergencies

First aid kits are available in key locations; injuries must be reported to staff. Follow all emergency procedures and staff instructions, including severe weather protocols.

8.3 Golf Course Safety
  • Wait for the group ahead to clear before playing.
  • Call “FORE!” if a ball is hit toward others.
  • Operate golf carts responsibly and follow designated paths.
8.4 Personal Responsibility

Members and guests are responsible for their own safety. The club is not liable for injuries caused by rule violations or negligence.

10. Liability Waivers & Risk Acknowledgments

10.1 Assumption of Risk

Golf involves inherent risks (e.g. being struck by a ball or club, tripping on uneven terrain, weather hazards). By entering the course or facilities, all players and guests acknowledge and accept these risks.

10.2 Personal Responsibility

Players, members, and guests are responsible for their own conduct, ensuring they behave safely, follow the rules, and use equipment (including buggies) appropriately.

10.3 Buggies, Trolleys & Equipment Use

Users of hired or personal equipment accept full responsibility for safe use. The Club is not liable for injury or damage resulting from misuse or failure to follow safety guidance.

10.4 Weather-Related Hazards

Play during adverse weather (lightning, frost, heat) is at the individual’s discretion and risk. The Club may suspend play in unsafe conditions but accepts no liability if a player chooses to continue.

10.5 Children & Supervision

Parents/guardians are responsible for the supervision and safety of juniors on the course, in the clubhouse, and in practice areas.

10.6 Property Loss or Damage

The Club accepts no liability for the loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings left on the course, in the clubhouse, car park, or lockers.

10.7 First Aid & Emergency Response

Basic first aid may be available; however, members and guests are encouraged to seek medical attention independently. The Club is not liable for delays or outcomes related to medical emergencies.

10.8 Insurance Recommendation

Members and guests are advised to carry personal liability and accident insurance while participating in golf or club activities.

12. Legal, Privacy & Disputes

12.1 Data Protection & Privacy

We collect, store, and use member data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws. We process your personal data for membership administration, booking management, security, service improvements, and, with your consent, marketing communications.

We may share personal data with third parties when necessary to provide services or comply with legal obligations. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Government & Regulatory Bodies – HMRC, law enforcement, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Prudential Regulation Authority, the Ombudsman, the Information Commissioner’s Office, and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
  • Service Providers – Debt recovery agencies, financial institutions, IT service providers, backup and hosting providers, document storage providers, other back-office support functions, and pro-shop retail provider.
  • Legal Compliance & Security – If required by law or to protect our rights and property.
  • Business Transactions – In the event of a merger, transfer, or sale of assets, we may be required to share relevant data with the involved third parties.

Members can opt out of marketing communications at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions or contacting us directly.

12.2 Photographs and Video Consent

By becoming a member of WGC Bury, you acknowledge and agree that the club may take photographs and videos of you during club activities and events for the purpose of marketing and promotional materials, including but not limited to use on our website, social media, brochures, and other marketing platforms.

Members over the age of 18 hereby give their consent to the use of these images and videos. If you do not wish to be included in such photographs or videos, you may opt out by notifying the club in writing at complaints@thegoodgolfcompany.com.

This consent is provided voluntarily and can be revoked at any time by contacting the club directly. If you are a member under the age of 18, your parent or guardian must provide written consent for the use of your image or video.

12.3 Changes to Terms & Conditions

The Club reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions at any time. Any changes will take effect immediately upon publication, unless stated otherwise.

Members will be notified of significant changes via email, the website, the golf app or official club communications. Continued use of club facilities after the effective date of any updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms & Conditions.

12.4 Complaints & Dispute Resolution

Members and guests should report any concerns to club management via email at office@wgcbury.co.uk.


Membership Termination Policy

1. Right to Terminate Membership

1.1 Absolute Right to Terminate

The Club reserves the absolute right, at its sole discretion, to suspend or terminate any membership at any time, with or without notice, and without the need to provide a reason, explanation, or prior investigation.

1.2 No Obligation to Justify

The Club shall not be required to justify, evidence, or substantiate any decision to suspend or terminate a membership.

2. Grounds for Termination

Without limiting the Club’s absolute discretion under clause 1, membership may be terminated for, but is not limited to, the following reasons:

  • Violation of Club Rules & Regulations – Any breach of the Club’s Terms and Conditions, policies, or course and clubhouse etiquette.
  • Misconduct & Unacceptable Behaviour – Including abusive language, harassment, unsportsmanlike conduct, or behaviour that damages the Club’s reputation.
  • Failure to Pay Fees – Non-payment of annual subscriptions, dues, or other financial obligations within the stated deadlines.
  • Damage to Club Property – Any intentional or negligent act resulting in damage to Club facilities, equipment, or property.
  • Misappropriation of Club Property - The unauthorised use or removal of any club-owned items, funds, or resources for personal or improper purposes.
  • Bringing the Club into Disrepute – Any action, whether on or off Club premises, that negatively affects the Club’s standing or community relationships.

3. Termination Process

  • The Club will provide written notice of any suspension or termination of membership to the member’s last known contact details. Such notice shall be deemed received upon dispatch, and the Club shall not be responsible for any failure by the member to receive or review such communication.
  • Membership privileges, including access to the course, clubhouse, and other facilities, will be immediately cancelled.
  • Lockers must be emptied, and trollies must be removed from Club premises by no later than 5:00PM on the final day of membership. Any items left beyond this time will be considered abandoned and disposed of at the Club’s discretion.
  • Locks must be removed from lockers by 5:00 PM on the final day of membership. The club reserved the right to cut off any locks that remain on a locker beyond this point
  • The Club is not responsible for any personal belongings left in lockers or the trolley store after the termination date.

4. Refund & Financial Liabilities

4No refunds will be issued upon termination, including annual fees, locker rentals, or prepaid services. Members remain responsible for any outstanding debts to the Club at the time of termination.

5. Reapplying for Membership

5Any former member whose membership was terminated may reapply after 3 years, subject to the Club’s approval and any conditions set at the time of reapplication.

The Club reserves the right to reject any reapplication at its discretion.

Membership Resignation Policy

1. Notice Requirement

  • Members wishing to resign must submit a written resignation notice at least 30 days before their membership renewal month.
  • Notices must be sent via email to office@wgcbury.co.uk.
  • For letter submissions, the 30-day notice period begins on the date of receipt by the Club.
  • If a member gives notice less than 30 days before renewal, notice shall take effect from the following renewal period.
  • The Club will provide written acknowledgment of the resignation within 5 business days. If no acknowledgment is received, members should contact the Club to confirm receipt.

2. Membership Fees & Financial Obligations

22.1 Responsibility for Outstanding Fees Upon Resignation

Members are responsible for any outstanding fees, dues, or charges incurred up to their resignation date.

2.2 Non-Refundable Subscription Fees and Exceptional Refunds

Annual subscription fees are non-refundable, and no pro-rata refunds will be issued unless approved by the Club under exceptional circumstances.

3. Confirmation of Resignation

Membership privileges, including access to the course, clubhouse, and facilities, will remain active until the end of the membership period, unless otherwise agreed.

4. Locker & Storage Rental

4.1 Removal of Personal Belongings

All locker contents, trolleys, and buggies must be removed by no later than 5PM on the final day of membership. Any items left beyond this time will be considered abandoned and disposed of at the Club’s discretion.

4.2 Liability for Personal Belongings Left After Rental Period

The Club is not responsible for any personal belongings left in lockers or the trolley store after the rental period ends.

5. Rejoining the Club

Former members wishing to rejoin must submit a new application and may be subject to:

  • Waiting lists
  • New fees
  • Late payment fee if rejoining within 30 days of voluntary or involuntary resignation
  • The prevailing membership terms at the time of reapplication

6. Exceptional Circumstances

In the event of illness, relocation, or other significant personal circumstances, the Club may, at its discretion, consider early resignation requests. Any refund or waiver of fees will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by Club Management.

7. Communication of Policy

This resignation policy is available on the Club’s website and upon request from the Head Office. Members are deemed to have accepted these terms upon joining or renewing membership.

8. Final Account Reconciliation

Any remaining balances on the member's account (e.g. club card or competition purse) must be used before the membership end date. Unused balances will be forfeited after this date.

9. Transfer of Memberships

Memberships are non-transferable and may not be assigned or shared. Any attempt to do so will result in immediate termination of the membership without refund.

10. Club Property

Any Club property on loan (e.g. trophy's, access fobs) must be returned by the final day of membership. Failure to return items may result in replacement charges.
